We heard some HORRIBLE stories regarding poverty, lack of Affordable housing, Day Care within Brandon.
There were MANY presentations from those on the front lines in the battle against poverty within Brandon.
We heard a rather harrowing story about a Grade 1 student within the Brandon School Division who went home for lunch. The house was locked and he fell asleep outside.
The Principal went to look for him and found him asleep in the snowbank.
This Principal is a VERY CARING, concerned, dedicated man and was concerned for this student when he didn't return to school after lunch.
Most Principals now have a refrigerator in their offices because SO MANY CHILDREN are coming to school hungry.
The City has offered up land to develop into more Affordable housing within Brandon but so far NO developer has stepped forward.
We heard how MANY individuals OFTEN have to choose between shelter and food within Brandon.
We also heard that housing within Brandon is TOO EXPENSIVE for most and almost unattainable.
Slum landlords appear to be getting away with murder within this City.
MANY children and students are suffering, etc.
I think that we need ACTION regarding building more Affordable Housing within Brandon.
I believe that this should be a TOP PRIORITY within this City.

I believe that brandon is a wonderful place to live.
ReplyDeleteFact is, government funding alone can sustain a family.
The problem is that the people or parents do not use the money to their advantages. They buy things that they want over things that they need.
If worse comes to worse, you dont need a god damn cake for every birthday.
